The COVID-19 Maldives Emergency Income Support Project was implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development with support from the World Bank to mitigate the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis on workers and their families. The project supported the reintegration of workers back in to the economy assisted the strengthening of social protection programs to respond to future emergencies.
The apprenticeship programme aims to provide certificate level trainings essential for re‐employability of workers, expanding the scope skills and creating a pathway for full-time employment.

The training programme is targeted towards those individuals whose employment were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is seeking to upskill or retrain in the following three areas:
(1) Accounting
(2) Diving
(3) Information and Technology

This program aims to provide financial and technical assistance to Self- Employed individuals whose livelihoods were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Self-Employed individuals, including freelance and home-based workers are encouraged to apply through the select key areas.

The COVID-19 Emergency Income Support Program was carried out from April-2020 to December-2020. Through the program period, over 22,900 individuals whose livelihood was affected by the pandemic was provided an allowance as financial relief assistance.
